You're going to start seeing air
conditioning Summer Advertising and various Manufacturer's Rebate Offers.
Be careful. Remember, nothing is FREE.
When you
read or hear about the $1000 rebate offer, ask the contractor that you're dealing with a couple of simple questions.
1. What equipment is associated with the rebate?
2. Can the cost difference between the rebate
equipment and other equipment,(18 SEER or 20 SEER) be justified?
3. Has any part
of the rebate been added to the quote?
Be sure you're asking about R410a refrigerant systems.
HVAC Manufacturers are making R410a equipment and you don't want a system with the R22 refrigerant.
R410A is chlorine-free and designed to help prevent damage to the ozone layer.

Indoor Air Quality is a BIG Issue especially with new home
construction and the use of foam insulation. These types of homes are being built extremely "tight" and require
